Transportation Tips

Airport

Sydney (SYD): Serves as primary hub for Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Jetstar and it also a major international hub. SYD also handles the busiest air route in Australia. There is an Airport Link Train to the center of the city.

Melbourne (MEL): Domestic and international flights, also Skybus offers transportation to city's center.

Brisbane (BNE): Offers domestic flights to Cairns, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. The Airtrain offers direct link to Brisbane Central Station.

Perth (PER): Located in Western Australia so flights to east are slightly longer.

Cairns (CNS): Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Flies mostly domestic flights with seasonal international flights.

Gold Coast (OOL): Limited interntaional connections, mostly for domestic tourists.

Public Transport

Trains: Sydney has trains operated by Sydney Trains and Opal Card works for all trains, buses, ferries, and light rail. Melbourne has metro trains that user Myki card and cover the city and suburbs. Brisbane has a skytrain network that connects the suburbs with the Central Business District (CBD) and a Go Card is required.

Buses and Trams: Melbourne houses the largest tram network and free rides in the CBD makes exploring easier. Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth have a wide range of routes which Google Maps or TripView can assist with planning routes.

Ferries: In Sydney, ferries are practical for reaching Manly, Taronga Zoo, and Darling Harbour. In Brisbane, City Cat ferries along the river offer transport and sightseeing.
